3 gallon pottery attributed to Cheever Meaders churn. Cheever was the father of famous folk potter Lanier Meaders. Churn is as found. As is! See pics for detail of missing loop handle. Awesome turn of century piece from White Co / Mossy Creek estate. Hand turned, kick wheel pottery. Alkaline glaze is beautiful. 15.5” tall x 7.5” across top. See pic of details. Cheever’s pots are double incised with circles below collar. He inscribed vessel number with a nail or sometimes his finger. Inside pot below rim you can also feel the ridge where Cheever adhered the churn to the collar. He potted large pieces in two parts bc he could not reach all the way to the bottom of large vessels. His arm was crooked due to an elbow injury from mule turned clay wheel. Gorgeous piece of antique Southern stoneware.
